The 2025 Provincial 4-H Curling Competition was held in Yorkton Saskatchewan February 14 – 16, 2025 at Yorkton’s state-of-the-art Gallagher Centre. This exciting event was hosted by the East 4-H Region’s own Springside 4-H Beef Club, with General Leader Mandie Foster as committee chairperson. Thank you Mandie and Springside! The weekend’s festivities began on Friday night, where eight Junior and eight Senior teams converged for the first draw of the weekend. Junior 4-H curlers are aged 6 to 13 years of age, with Senior team members aged 14 to 21. Teams represented the province’s three newly formed 4-H regions: the North Region, West Region and East Region. This year’s host had an extra important task of determining a brand-new draw for three regional groups (as opposed to our previous four regions). The draw would need to offer teams many games without timely waiting periods, but also prevent teams from leaving the event early after unsuccessful games. Chairperson Mandie came through! Using a ‘Pool’ system for the draws, each team was in a four-team pool, thus guaranteeing them three games each on Friday and Saturday. Because there were the same number of teams in each age group, all teams were able to play at the exact same time, adding to the excitement amongst audience members in the rink. The top two teams from each pool advanced to the finals, and teams were chosen based on win/loss record, as well as a team ‘Draw to the Button’ distance after each game. An official Opening Ceremonies was held on Saturday, with East Member Ambassador Dinah Buhler serving as MC. Bagpiper Ferne Katzberg led the procession, joined by a member of the RCMP, the City of Yorkton Mayor Aaron Kienle, Committee Member Leonard Foster, Regional 4-H Manager Melodi Hawkesford-Lee, 4-H Hall of Fame inductee Marlene Tymiak, East Leader Delegate Board Member Susan Avramenko, East Leader Ambassador Paula Beattie, and of course, Harold the 4-H Hare! Next came the Parade of Champions that included the following curling teams: West Region Junior Teams:
Sunday’s games consisted of a more ‘familiar’ draw for 4-Hers – a short double knockout, 1-winner draw. After a day of hard curling, the Provincial 4-H Curling results were as follows: Junior Final Placings:
Senior Final Placings:
